Why big change happens through small steps

We often overestimate what can happen in a day and underestimate what can happen in a year.
Big change rarely comes from one defining moment. It comes from a series of small, consistent steps that don’t always feel significant at the time. The challenge is that small steps can feel too simple, almost insignificant, which makes it tempting to look for something bigger or more dramatic.
But direction is not built through intensity. It is built through consistency.
I’ve seen people wait for the “right moment” to make a big move, only to stay stuck for months or even years. Meanwhile, others take small, steady steps, adjusting as they go, and quietly build momentum.
Progress often looks ordinary while it’s happening. It’s the repeated choices, the daily actions, and the willingness to keep going even when it doesn’t feel impressive.
You don’t need a complete overhaul to move forward. You need a next step that you can actually take.
Reflection
What is one small step you already know you could take, but keep putting off because it feels too simple?
